Killing weeds in paving.
« on: February 23, 2016, 12:08:21 PM »
Many people suggest spraying brick paving weeds with a combination of salt, vinegar and dish washing liquid.
Immediately their leaves turn brown and within a week they appear dead. However, within a few weeks they are back again.
Is there any way of preventing their re-emergence without constantly having to be spraying? In my case I have a large paved area right around my house and this method is not at all practical.

Weeds are tenacious irritants. Nothing that I know is going to stop them from growing forever that won't be dangerous to your own health or cause other problems.

I find that boiling water works for me ... also important that the weeds are not allowed to blossom and spread seeds. But it does require fairly frequent attention.
Have read Yates produce a long acting weed killer for pavers and it only needs to be used once a week ... have not tried it as I try to avoid chemicals.

I have been using the vinegar etc spray lately as the best solution so far - but as you say it does have to be used on a fairly regular basis.
At the beginning of spring I really drenched the weeds in the paving with it and that worked for about 3 months but then they started popping up again.
I'm not sure how long it will work in winter IF we have regular rain though.

Use spray bottle and drench weeds.

I use a 2 litre vinegar bottle and it only covers about 35m2.
